Literally

When Rachel was much younger, she provided us with a lot of unintentional humour. One time, when she was about three years old and could use the toilet by herself, but still needed help with the, ummm, post-activity clean up, she cracked me right up. Leah had fallen and cut her knee, and I had her sitting up on the kitchen counter so I could put a band-aid on her ouchie. Rachel was yelling at me from the bathroom, "I need you to wipe!" I was busy, so I called back, "Hold your horses, Rachel, I'll be there in a minute." There was a pause, and a sad little voice answered back, "But I don't have any horses, Mummy."

See? Literal can be funny.

And this is the funniest thing I've seen in a while: literal videos, where the lyrics have been changed to match what's going on in the video.

It just gets funnier the longer it goes on. The ending damn near killed me. I laughed til I cried, and I might have peed just a little bit too.

  2. Our best/worst literal was when I told three year old K to run to the lamp-post. She ran full pelt into the lamp-post, then bounced back splat on the ground. I felt so sorry for her though it was really really hard not to laugh! After that I was always careful to say run NEXT to the lamp-post!

  3. I literally just laughed my ass off. Sigh -- wouldn't it be great if that was possible?

  4. I love those literal videos!

Apparently, literalness is not outgrown in our family. A few years ago, I instructed the husband to "go clean the crapper." I meant the entire bathroom. He went in and did only the toilet, leaving all the rest of the filth behind.

  5. How come I can't see the video? All I see if a blank white space. Bummer. I need a good laugh!

(And I remember when Rachel said that to you. Has it really been that long? Wow.)

  9. That made my night - the video makes me laugh anyway, but the literal version is hilarious. Always reminds me of that brilliant Not The Nine O'Clock News skit "Nice video: shame about the song"

  10. Pretty freaking funny! What's even funnier is I remember this song/video coming out, and I loved her hair and eye make-up...yeah.

  11. Oh fruck, that was funny. I didn't pee, but I did lose a lot of eye fluid and managed to embarass the hell out of the kid who had friends over getting ready for a party and heard me laughing right out loud (how dare I?). Win-win. Thanks
